Crime is a complex social phenomenon with far-reaching consequences. It causes suffering for those affected, creates insecurity in society, and entails high costs for both individuals and society as a whole. To better understand crime and develop evidence-based measures to prevent and combat it, expertise from various disciplines is required, as well as close collaboration between academia and practitioners.

CrimeLabUZH connects the diverse range of crime-related research at the University of Zurich with partners in the field, such as the Zurich Forensic Science Institute, the Office of Corrections and Rehabilitation, and the city and cantonal police. The platform brings together experts from disciplines such as criminology, forensic psychiatry, psychology, sociology, history, ethnology, economics, neuroscience, computer science, law, and biology. Combining scientific expertise with practical experience gives rise to new synergies, innovative approaches, and a deeper understanding of crime.
