CrimeLab Kickoff on 30 March 2026
On March 30, 2026, the CrimeLab Kickoff took place in the historic Little Aula at UZH. Numerous interested researchers and practitioners took the opportunity to learn about the new interdisciplinary and interinstitutional research network. Among those represented were the cantonal police, the Institute of Forensic Medicine, the University Hospital of Psychiatry Zurich, and scientists from various universities and academic institutions.
Following inspiring opening remarks by Frank Rühli and Thomas Gächter, the deans of the Faculty of Medicine and Faculty of Law, respectively, Thierry Urwyler presented the CrimeLab. The keynote focused on the network’s vision, its planned structure, and its four core research pillars.
During the subsequent group sessions, participants had the opportunity to learn more about the four pillars from the respective research leaders—Sascha Frühholz, Elmar Habermeyer, and Lisa Holper-Nellen, as well as Dirk Baier and Nadine Zurkinden—and identify connections to their own work. This sparked the first lively discussions, which continued during the reception.
