Traditionally, crime control is based on intuitive assessments by the legislator. Evidence-based crime control, however, requires empirical studies on the effectiveness and cost-benefit ratio of interventions.

CrimeLabUZH will cover both of these aspects. Additionally, we aim to establish interdisciplinary standards for risk and science communication.

Planned research projects

The first phase of the CrimeLab will feature various research projects on the control of crime, including:

  • Risk Communication in forensic psychiatric-psychological reports in criminal law (Lead: Thierry Urwyler)

  • Application of an online help-program for offenders with pedophilic interests (Lead: Elmar Habermeyer)

  • Evidence-Based Prediction of Sexual Recidivism Risk in Legal Contexts (Lead: Lisa Holper-Nellen)

  • Discrepancies Between Risk Assessment Instruments and Expert Opinions (Lead: Lisa Holper-Nellen und Thierry Urwyler)
